The Stone and Holt Weeks Foundation Stone and Holt not only believed, but proved -- through their volunteerism and incredible vitality -- that you can do good and have fun at the same time. They very much wanted to make the world a better place for all. And they both had the gift of making everything they did a lot of fun -- with creativity and originality. From an early age, the brothers talked about making the world a better place and, even more important, they took action -- helping those less fortunate, increasing environmental awareness, improving educational opportunities for the underprivileged, building better communities. As its mission, the Foundation will carry on their dreams in their spirits in two ways. By sponsoring creative and fun events that raise money, awareness and volunteers for good causes. And by making grants to those who echo this same idea. The sole goal of The Stone and Holt Weeks Foundation is to make the world a better place for all. The Foundation seeks to provide support to the organizations and institutions that Stone and Holt were involved with. For more information click Stone and Holt Weeks Foundation. SECOND
GREEN HAMMER AWARD RECEIPIENT
The Green Hammer award was established, in conjunction with the Stone and
Holt Weeks Foundation, to honor the memories and spirits of brothers Stone
and Holt Weeks, who were tragically killed by a highway trucking crash in the summer of
2009. The award is given to a volunteer or organization that has embodied
RTDC’s mission of “going green” while giving free home repairs to low-income
homeowners. Stone and Holt were humanitarians, activists, and idealists, who
were dedicated to the forwarding of environmental issues.
The award will be presented on Thursday, March 17th, 2011 at 6:30pm in the
Great Hall at St. Columba’s Church,
4201 Albemarle Street, NW, Washington,
DC 20016. This presentation will
be made during our annual meeting of
House Captains, who act as the main
coordinators of all the Rebuilding
activities con- ducted by RTDC each
year. They are our most dedicated
volunteers. We hope that the presentation
of this award in their midst motivates them to incorporate ‘greening’ repairs
and modifications into their projects so that Stone and Holt’s visions are
advanced.
RTDC’s goal in advocating greening techniques being incorporated into their
home repair projects is intended to provide safeguards to the environment and
reduce homeownership costs to the low income homeowners we serve— all in
memory of Stone and Holt Weeks.
Accepting the Award on behalf of HSBC will be Aimee Daniels, EVP Regional
President and volunteer who served on the team, Tom Higgins, who served as
HSBC’s House Captain on their project, and Wa'il Ashshowwaf and Peter
Schatz, HSBC employees who served on the team. The award will be presented
by Jan and Linton Weeks, Stone and Holt’s parents, and Janice T.
Stango, Executive Director of Rebuilding Together of Washington, DC.
